|What is Caring For Life, U.S.A.?
Caring For Life, U.S.A. is a Christian Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation formed in California and registered there on November 28th, 2006. To quote from our Articles of Incorporation:
“The specific purpose of this corporation is to promote the Christian faith in bringing the love and compassion of Jesus Christ to mankind through the relief in need of persons who are poor, have a disability, are infirm or otherwise in need…”
On October 26th, 2007 the IRS issued a determination that Caring For Life, U.S.A. is exempt from Federal income tax under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and classified the organization as a public charity.
In order to further the organization's purposes, the Board of Directors of CFL, U.S.A. has the power to make grants to any organization organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of section 501 (c) (3) of the Inland Revenue Code, whether it is a foreign or a domestic organization. The full powers of the organization can be viewed in its bylaws, on request.
Through making grants to this ministry, we will be able to achieve our objectives of caring for those in need, sharing the love of Jesus through providing homes for those who cannot care for themselves due to autistic spectrum disorder, learning difficulties or abuse suffered in childhood.
We will also be able to help to provide support for those living alone but in need of long term support due to their vulnerability and we will be able to help people start life all over again by providing vital therapeutic daytime activity projects with employment training for those who will then be able to go on to provide for themselves.
In addition, we will be seeking to set up projects in the USA, building on the track record of organizations such as CFL in the UK and providing comprehensive support for some of the most vulnerable and needy.
Caring For Life, U.S.A. seeks to share the love of Jesus with homeless or vulnerable people by providing accommodation, ongoing support and friendship, enabling people to develop dignity and self-respect. Our motto is simple: "Sharing the Love of Jesus."
We believe that all men and women are made in the image of God, and that leads us to treat people with dignity and respect. Most of those we support have been afforded little respect in the past. Our principles of care spring from the example of Jesus Christ and the way He reached out to those who needed help.
Jesus brought much criticism on Himself because He cared for people whom society rejected. We see very clearly the way in which He loved the needy and vulnerable, e.g. Matthew 9:36:
"When he saw huge crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd".
A verse we find very challenging is Matthew 25:34-36 + 40. We are clearly given a commission to care for those in need:
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
..”I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
Those who are vulnerable and in need of help very often have many issues underlying a problem such as homelessness. The root of their difficulty may lie in all manner of problems, such as childhood sexual abuse or neglect, a psychiatric illness or deep-seated psychological problems. Through the organizations it seeks to fund, and ultimately through its own projects here in the USA, CFL, U.S.A. aims to address all these issues as we share the love of Jesus in the most practical of ways. As we do so, many will ask questions about the Christ who motivates the staff caring for them. Many people have already come to know the Lord Jesus Christ for themselves through the ministry of CFL in the UK, finding in Him true peace and the ultimate answer to their problems.
